Sheriff reports staffing moves, training, active-shooter exercise and proposed agreements

Sheriff Frank Ryan gave an operations update that included permanent sergeant appointments after testing, interviews for a firearms instructor to replace a retiree, and the appointment of Correction Officer LeClair. Ryan said the department will send officers to a Corrections Academy class run by FLIA to obtain necessary certifications.
Ryan also reported community and training activity: the sheriff's office issued 49 child ID kits at a Rotary Winter Carnival, conducted a full-scale active-shooter training at the Dundee School District with fire and EMS and a mobile dispatch center (which revealed issues the agencies were able to fix), and Deputy Nick Fultz graduated from DARE school. The committee was asked to consider authorizing the chair to sign an MOU with CO 82 LE regarding the lateral transfer of Z. Presher and to renew an agreement with Ronald G. Spike for related consulting services; the items were presented to the committee for consideration.
