Committee recommends Board approve two-year-funded program manager for Great Basin Children's Advocacy Center

The Elko County Budget Committee on a unanimous recommendation asked the Board of County Commissioners to approve a program manager position for the Great Basin Children's Advocacy Center (CAC), to be covered by external funds for up to two years. Chair moved to recommend the request and another committee member seconded; members then voted in favor and the item will advance to the County Commission next week.

Tyler Ingram (transcript: Moco County DA) described staffing and funding needs for the CAC and urged the committee to approve the position promptly. "We've done over 2,300 forensic examinations since we opened," Ingram said, arguing the program manager is essential to sustain operations and grant applications. He presented a proposed salary of about $121,000—$122,000 per year with a potential $33,000 annual offset from a grant modification that staff expected to hear about in February. Ingram said the CAC can fund the role for two years if the grant modification is not approved, and that Eureka and White Pine Counties have contributed to support CAC operations.

Committee members pressed for transparency about long-term funding and noted risks if grant support lapses, including additional PERS and roll-up costs. The committee recorded a formal motion to recommend the program manager be funded with external sources for the next two years; the motion carried and will be placed on the County Commission agenda for final action.
