Commissioners renew interlocal agreement for regional capital public defender services

County Attorney Jackson (speaker 11) told commissioners the interlocal agreement with the regional public defender office in Lubbock is a renewal of an existing arrangement used to fulfill Potter County’s public defense obligations in capital cases. Jackson said the arrangement provides economies of scale and practical provision of indigent capital defense services.
Commissioners asked about the fund balance and whether contributions exceed expenses; Jackson said the attachments provided show contributions but that he did not have the group’s detailed financials on hand and offered to follow up. The court approved renewing the interlocal agreement by voice/hand vote, 4–0.
