County manager gives operations update; new 911 center aiming for August opening

County Manager Tony Hughes briefed the public on multiple county operations at the April 16 meeting. He said road crews have begun surface treatments and asphalt work for warmer weather and reminded residents that crews will remove yard signs found in mowing rights-of-way. Hughes said Canada Creek Bridge should be open to the public within the next month and that Poteete Creek Campground is open and operating.
Hughes also reported that recreation programs are active, with a Fishing Rodeo scheduled in Suches on April 25, 2026 and fall-sports registration open. He said the new 911 Dispatch Center hopes to open in August 2026. On facilities, Hughes noted the courthouse roof carries a 25-year warranty with yearly service inspections and a separate one-year workmanship agreement.
