County orders two appraisals for animal shelter property; City negotiations to follow

Attorney Rick Fox told the board that two appraisals have been ordered for the animal shelter building; once those appraisals are returned the county will be positioned to move forward on ownership and use decisions. Commissioner Al Knable said the City has been engaged in discussions and described a tentative plan to average the two appraisals and offer the City 50% of that average.
Knable also recommended extending the current animal-control contract through 2025 while the parties sort out ownership. Council member Denise Konkle asked whether selling Grant Line Road properties should be considered to offset bridge needs; Knable said he prefers vacating and liquidating the Pineview property and exploring a public–private venture for Grant Line Road. No sale or transfer was approved at the meeting.
