Council approves reclassification in Public Defender’s office over pay-parity debate, 5-2

Public Defender Matt Lorch asked the council to reclassify his Administrative Assistant to Administrative Paralegal to achieve pay parity with the Prosecutor’s office and as part of a state-approved comprehensive plan. The council approved the reclassification on a 5-2 vote (Jim Freiberger and Denise Konkle opposed). Mr. Lorch said the net fiscal impact after state reimbursement would be approximately $8,000.
Council members discussed the recommended pay range; Denise Konkle recommended using the low range of PAT B and re-evaluating at budget time, a position supported by Jim Freiberger. The council set the effective date as the next full pay period. No amendment to revert the change was recorded at the meeting.
