Officials: broad agency buy-in sets Clatsop County's program apart

Program staff said Clatsop County's deflection program benefits from buy-in across law enforcement, the district attorney's office and community partners, a level of cooperation some other counties reportedly lack.
Christina Schultz and Isaiah O'Neil said one reason the county's deflection work succeeds is broad cross-agency participation.
"What kind of sets Clatsop County's deflection program apart... is the amount of people who have bought into the program," O'Neil said, adding that some counties struggle to get sheriffs, DA offices or judges to participate. Schultz, who spoke from a law-enforcement perspective, echoed that buy-in: "We are truly making a difference in these folks' lives."
The guests named Seaside Police Department, the District Attorney's Office, parole and probation and Clatsop Behavioral Healthcare among partners; they said joint work has helped clients reconnect with housing and employment in some cases.
