Commission approves 2026 Bridge Improvement Grant awards and STIP additions

Doug Kinniburgh, Office of Administration, presented HANDOUT A with the Department's recommended 2026 Bridge Improvement Grant (BIG) awards for preservation and rehabilitation/replacement. Kinniburgh recommended approving rehabilitation/replacement grants except application numbers 3, 8 and 13 and to award the top ten scoring preservation grant applications. He asked that the projects receiving grants be added to the STIP.
The Commission voted to approve the recommended rehabilitation/replacement grants (excluding 3, 8 and 13), approved the top ten preservation awards as shown in HANDOUT A, and approved adding the awarded projects to the 2026‑29 STIP by revision. The motion carried by unanimous voice vote. The HANDOUT lists projects across multiple counties and several city‑owned structures; recommended grant amounts and match ratios are included in the packet.
