NDOT reports mixed traffic-count trends, details maintenance work and projects near completion in Elko County

A Nevada Department of Transportation representative, identified in meeting discussion as Kareem, told the Regional Transportation Commission that most traffic-count stations in Elko County show downward trends, with a few exceptions and at least one malfunctioning station near the Nevada–Utah state line.
Kareem explained traffic metrics used (monthly average daily traffic, weekday and weekend averages) and agreed to ask NDOT's traffic-count division to provide additional counts for SR 227 and 12th Street. He also reviewed maintenance activity (shoulder work on SR 221 and SR 227, pothole patching, removal of falling-rock debris on SR 225 mileposts 63 to 93, guardrail and cushion repairs on I-80 between MP 260 and 280, bridge-deck joint repairs at Elko Exit 303, sign replacements from MP 1 to 20.1 on SR 227 and more), and listed construction and pavement rehabilitation projects approaching acceptance by district staff. On a proposed roundabout, Kareem said design-group discussions recommended reducing the speed limit to 45 mph at the affected segment and that the roundabout should slow traffic and improve safety.
"If you look at the ELCO, all the traffic count that we have in ELCO, you'll see that the general trend is it's going down," Kareem told the board. He agreed to follow up with specific, month-to-month comparisons and to request information about historic data where requested by commissioners.
