Smithfield relocation prompts further traffic study at Crooks/Renner I‑29 interchange

Secretary Jundt told the Commission that a planning study of the Crooks/Renner I‑29 interchange is being updated because the announced relocation of Smithfield will increase traffic in the area. Department staff and the City of Sioux Falls are coordinating with the developer's consultant, which is finalizing a Traffic Impact Study to quantify opening‑day and 20‑year traffic operations.
Jundt said the Traffic Impact Study will inform what operational or capital improvements may be needed; any proposed changes on the state system would be added to the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) for funding and scheduling consideration.
