Secretary Joel Jundt told the South Dakota Transportation Commission that recent federal appropriations include several Congressionally Directed Spending awards for state transportation projects. The Department will administer the awards: Rapid City Airport was approved for $20 million, Sioux Falls Airport for $30 million, the Department was awarded $25 million for the SD 44 Platte–Winner Bridge, and Box Elder will receive $4 million for preliminary design on US14/US16, Cheyenne Boulevard and Radar Hill Road.
Jundt said overall federal funding will be roughly 2% above last year and noted these CDS awards will be administered through the Department. He also told commissioners the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee are continuing work on surface transportation legislation, with T&I Chairman Graves aiming to release a bill by the end of March. Any changes to projects resulting from development or additional studies will need to be added to the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).
