County officials opened their Feb. 2 Commissioners Court meeting by showing a staff-produced video that summarized Bexar County's preparation and response to a recent ice event.
"Our crews were out there nonstop'public works, facilities, community resources and our IT team," Monica Ramos, the county's public information officer, said as she introduced the video. Ramos told the court that the county coordinated warming centers, outreach to vulnerable residents and support across departments through the Office of Emergency Management.
Judge Peter Sakai thanked front-line employees and asked the court and audience to applaud the staff who worked during the storm. "Emergency shelters, communications and key information to the public stood ready to help our most vulnerable," Sakai said. The court moved quickly from the recognition into its business agenda.
