Staff reports Monokee Prairie Trail nearing completion and under budget

At the Porter County Commission meeting, a staff member reported progress on the Monokee Prairie Trail, saying the retaining wall and boardwalk near the Howe Road terminus are finished and that railing installation is pending arrival of hardware. The staff member said paving is expected in a few days and that the overall project is moving quickly.
"It's coming along really nicely, and we're still under budget. Yay," the staff member said, noting the county had requested the balance of funds from Next Level Trails and expected a large invoice soon. Commissioners responded with brief praise for the speed and appearance of the work. The update emphasized that the trail segments built by Porter County tie into adjacent park sections and use matching materials and colors.
