La Porte repeals duplicative mobile food vendor rules to comply with new state law

The council adopted Ordinance 2026-5037 to repeal duplicative mobile food vendor regulations codified in Chapter 22 of the city code so the city's rules align with the state's mobile vendor framework (HB 2844) and the provisions already placed in Chapter 106 of La Porte’s code.
Planning Director Ryan Vietlick told council the repeal removes duplicated provisions and any rules the city cannot enforce under the new state law. "Before you this evening is the final of kind of the three things that needed to be done to get ready for the Food Truck Freedom bill going into effect, HB 2844, which goes into effect on July 1," Vietlick said. Council questioned the effect on permitting and staff explained the state will be the exclusive permitting agency for mobile food parks while the city retains zoning and other regulatory authority; the ordinance passed on a voice vote.
