La Porte board narrows language for enhancement grants, approves broader documentation requirement

Haley, a staff member for the La Porte Development Corporation, presented proposed amendments to the enhancement grant policy and said the new language "reads, any under the reimbursement guidelines, any additional documentation as required by the economic development office and/or mandated under the terms of the incentive agreement between applicant and the LaPorte Development Corporation," to make reimbursement requirements more comprehensive. The board moved and seconded the change and approved it unanimously, 5-0.
One board member raised concern that the document’s use of the word "other" when describing beautification projects had previously allowed applications beyond the board’s original intent; another board member argued the phrasing preserves useful latitude and reminded colleagues that final approval remains with the board. Chair called the motion and the update passed 5-0. The amendment will be applied to future enhancement grant applications and reimbursements under existing incentive agreements.
