City recreation staff recapped two large fall events for the council on Dec. 9, reporting high attendance and operational lessons for future planning.
Josh (Speaker 10) told council Harvest Fest (Oct. 11) drew a visual estimate of roughly 6,000–7,000 people, described a vendor area that hosted about 70 vendors with roughly 40 people on a wait list, and said the city distributed roughly 1,500 pumpkins to children (they ran out by about 2 p.m.). On the Night of 1,000 Pumpkins the staff estimated 2,000–3,000 attendees despite severe weather that shortened the main evening by an hour.
Josh outlined logistical takeaways: improve flow to featured demonstrations (blacksmith area), require consistent application/compliance for groups like the Plein Air Art Festival for liability reasons, provide more lighting in rear parking/trunk-or-treat areas, and recruit more volunteers (many declined in rainy conditions). He recommended consolidating the chili cook‑off into Harvest Fest to improve thematic fit and attendance.
Council members thanked staff for the events and suggested small changes (lighting, vendor layout, detached sidewalks at future sites). The council asked staff to present a formal wrap-up at an upcoming meeting with detailed attendance figures, volunteer counts and a recommended budget for lighting and additional rail/hanging hardware if needed for displays.
