Officials promote citizen academies, say code enforcement capacity may grow after consolidation

City staff used the town-hall to highlight opportunities for residents to engage in local government and public safety programs. Staff described a City 'U' program in parks, a Citizens Police Academy with an active alumni association that participates in neighborhood patrols, a Citizens Election Academy and CERT training led by the emergency-operations coordinator.
On permitting and code enforcement, Planning & Development Director Ryan Biloc and City Manager Orby Alexander said the building-permit function is staffed but that council had discussed adding code-enforcement resources based on workload. "We do feel like there may be a need for additional code enforcement resources... we would anticipate... that we would add a code enforcement person," a staff speaker said. The city has also piloted evening and weekend patrols to increase presence in areas with recurring complaints.
