Elko Community Health Center expands specialty services; infusion center reduces travel for cancer patients

Mike Clark, CEO of Elko Community Health Center, told the board the center has expanded specialty services and opened an infusion clinic so patients no longer need to travel 3.5 hours to Salt Lake for chemotherapy.
"We've already got patients that are transferring their care from Huntsman Cancer Center, to our infusion center," Clark said, noting a telemedicine agreement with Intermountain Health allows oncologists to consult remotely. Clark also described plans to bring additional surgeons, orthopedists and cardiologists to increase local availability for procedures and follow‑up care.
Clark presented patient‑satisfaction measures showing high top‑box scores across several indices and said the center is ranked about the 83rd percentile among comparable ambulatory surgery centers. Board members praised the infusion service as a convenience for elderly residents and those with mobility challenges.
