County staff briefed the committee on an upcoming CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) round and the county's septic-repair assistance program.
Marie said the program reimburses qualifying homeowners for septic repairs at 50% up to $10,000 per household. "So it's 50% up to 10,000," she said, explaining that a $20,000 system could qualify for $10,000 and an $8,000 system would normally qualify for $4,000. Staff emphasized the county requires plans, estimates and proof of payment before issuing reimbursement and noted the application form was shortened to reduce confusion; the first mailing to eligible households went out earlier this week.
Staff also said outreach will include partner communications (an agriculture newsletter) and that a public comment/notice window was slated for mid-February through mid-March on related items. They noted that the DEC sets criteria for priority water bodies and that the county maintains a spreadsheet of estimated septic systems to help prioritize funding.
