County Engineer Justin Barfield said blading on dirt roads has been hindered by rain and by a shortage of qualified motorgrader operators; he said only four operators remain and that hiring is underway.
Commissioner Jeff Hatcher moved to allow motorgrader operators to start at Step 5 to make positions more competitive; Commissioner Bart Wilks seconded and the motion passed 4-0. The county is advertising for a foreman and motorgrader operators; Barfield said operators agreed to work an extra weekend to make progress while hiring continues.
