Porter Board approves three cemetery directional signs; state permission required for highway attachments

Town trustees voted to purchase three directional signs to guide visitors to local cemeteries, including Lincoln Cemetery. The measure passed unanimously after the Board discussed prior maintenance delays due to wet conditions.
Norma Meyer recalled a prior discussion about placing signs at Highway 51B and by Lions Park and suggested an additional sign directing people to Lincoln Cemetery at Hale Avenue and 9th Street. Jackie Todd cautioned that Highway 51B is a state highway and the town would need permission from the State Highway Department to attach signs to existing stop signs. Mayor Steve Dickey moved to purchase the three signs; the motion carried unanimously.
