Orange County authorizes renewal sales‑tax sharing agreement with Newburgh, Middletown and Port Jervis

The Orange County Legislature on Feb. 5 authorized the County Executive to sign a renewal sales tax sharing agreement with the Cities of Newburgh, Middletown and Port Jervis covering March 1, 2026 through Feb. 28, 2029.
Sponsors said representatives from the county and the three cities agreed on a distribution plan for a portion of county sales and compensating use tax; the resolution directs that the Chairwoman approve the agreement prior to execution by the County Executive and notes allocations pursuant to Articles 28 and 29 of the Tax Law. The measure passed unanimously, with the Clerk instructed to forward certified copies to the cities, the Office of the State Comptroller (Taxation and Finance) and all affected towns and villages.
