Coosa County approves SRO agreement; Board of Education to fund majority share

The Coosa County Commission unanimously approved a School Resource Officer (SRO) agreement with the Board of Education on Sept. 9. "Motioned by Commissioner John Forbus to approve SRO Agreement between Coosa County Commission and the Board of Education," the minutes record; the motion was seconded by Vice-Chair Brandon Davis and approved without objection.
The agreement sets the SRO term from Oct. 1, 2025 through Sept. 30, 2026. Funding for the assigned deputy for the 2025-2026 fiscal year is specified in the agreement: Board of Education $48,505.60 and Sheriff $24,252.80. The document states the deputy will serve as an independent contractor for the purposes of the agreement, will be employed by the Sheriff, and will perform duties on school grounds during days school is in session with limited off-campus duties when appropriate. The agreement was executed by Chair Lamar Daugherty, Coosa County Board of Education Superintendent David Stover, and Sheriff Michael Howell.
