The Coosa County Commission voted unanimously Sept. 9 to adopt the Coosa County Solid Waste Management Plan 2025
2035 prepared by LaBella Associates and to pass the resolution required for submission to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management. "Motioned by Commissioner John Forbus to approve the 2025 Coosa County Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP)," the meeting record states.
The resolution cites the Alabama Solid Wastes & Recyclable Materials Management Act (Code of Alabama 1975, a7 22-27-47) as the statutory basis for a 10-year plan. The adopted SWMP will serve as the County—s basis for solid-waste management through Dec. 31, 2035, unless amended earlier. LaBella Associates prepared the plan and the record notes the plan followed a public comment period that opened Aug. 8, 2025 and closed with the Sept. 9 public hearing. County officials listed Tad Eason at the Highway Department as the contact for plan copies and questions.
Next steps recorded in the meeting minutes include transmitting the adopted plan and resolution to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management for review. The motion to adopt was seconded by Commissioner Bertha K. McElrath and recorded as unanimously approved; Commissioner Ronnie Joiner was recorded as not present.
