Commission simplifies neighborhood-council language in draft charter report

Commissioner Mary McCormick urged simplifying the language used to describe neighborhood or community councils in the draft Final Report (page 8), arguing that "neighborhood council" is the more commonly understood term. She recommended removing Section 3.03 and eliminating proposed Section E, and proposed adding a sentence that the Council of Commissioners has the power to authorize community councils to advise the Council of Commissioners.
The Commission approved the language changes through discussion without a formal roll-call vote, and McCormick volunteered to prepare the edits for incorporation into the final draft. The changes are intended to clarify the council’s advisory role and standardize terminology across the report.
