The council unanimously approved first reading of Ordinance 2026‑06, the annual update to mixed‑use neighborhood tables in the City of Venice comprehensive plan, and authorized transmittal to the Florida Department of Commerce for review. Planning manager Amy Nelson summarized neighborhood‑by‑neighborhood tables, highlighted a Knights Trail revision that removed a planned commercial component in favor of single‑family zoning, and explained that the comp‑plan process requires an annual check on percentages of mixed‑use allowances.
Nelson told council that some mixed‑use areas exceed 75% of their allocated residential capacity and that staff and council may consider future adjustments; she noted the Seaboard District remains in early planning and its eventual mix of residential and nonresidential uses remains under study. Council unanimously approved first reading and transmission for state review.
