Board notes contested appointment of Rob Britton but proceeds with full membership

The Town of Southington Board of Finance opened its July 29 meeting by noting that Town Council had appointed Rob Britton to fill the vacancy left by the late Edward Pocock Jr., and that the appointment is being contested on procedural grounds.
"Town Council, in consultation with the town attorney, made an appointment and they appointed Mr. Rob Britton to fill the vacancy," Chair Larry said, adding that the contention centers on "where the authority for the appointment lies." He told the board the council and the town attorney believe the appointment was proper and said the Board would proceed "as if Rob Britton is a full fledged, appointed member" unless the matter changes.
Board members asked questions about timing and whether the appointment had been discussed at Town Council; one member noted the contest involves process rather than Britton personally. The board did not take formal action to reverse or challenge the appointment; Chair Larry said the dispute will be resolved at Town Council level and that the Board will follow any resulting determination.
