Dinwiddie fair sees higher turnout and revenues, organizers say

County staff presented an after‑action report on the October county fair, highlighting higher attendance and revenues and describing operational lessons learned.
Stacy (county staff) told the board gate revenues rose about 20% over last year and reported attendance increased by “more than 1,000 people.” She said carnival payout nearly doubled to $19,894, sponsorships rose to $10,500 and a $10,000 Virginia Tourism grant helped total revenues climb to just under $104,000. Staff said additional funds this year were invested in expanded attractions, vendor support and safety measures such as an emergency command post.
Board members and fair partners praised staff and volunteers; a representative of the FFA alumni described the fair’s role in supporting youth programs and local nonprofits. Staff said planning will continue year‑round and that next year’s goal is to bring even more entertainment and community partnerships while keeping the event safe and affordable.
