Coosa County adopts participation in 2026 severe weather preparedness tax holiday

The Coosa County Commission voted unanimously Aug. 12 to participate in the 2026 Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday authorized by Act No. 2012-256. Commissioner Bertha K. McElrath moved to adopt the resolution and Commissioner John Forbus seconded; the motion carried without objection.
The resolution specifies that county sales and use taxes will be exempt for qualifying severe weather preparedness supplies beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Feb. 20, 2026, and ending at 12:00 a.m. on Feb. 22, 2026. The minutes record that the commission will forward a copy of the resolution to the Alabama Department of Revenue in compliance with Code of Alabama § 11-51-210(e). "...beginning at 12:01 a.m. on February 20, 2026 and ending at twelve midnight on Sunday, February 22, 2026," the resolution states.
