Board authorizes acceptance of excess equipment from Nevada Division of Forestry

The Elko County Board of Fire Commissioners authorized the Fire Protection District to accept and assume ownership of excess equipment offered by the Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF), including personal protective equipment, chainsaws and up to three project trailers outfitted with sanitation facilities.
Chief Matt Peterson said the inventory has been inspected and several items appear new or lightly used; he estimated maintenance costs would be minimal and absorbable within the district's existing operations budget. Commissioner (speaker 6) moved to authorize acceptance of the equipment and Commissioner (speaker 4) seconded; the board approved the authorization by voice vote.
Peterson said the trailers would reduce the need for crews to leave project sites for restroom breaks and that accepting the equipment will support fuels projects and on-site operations.
