Elko County agencies approve cooperative agreement with TV district to formalize radio support

The Elko County Board of Fire Commissioners voted to approve a three-way cooperative agreement between the Elko County TV District, Elko County and the Elko County Fire District to formalize mutual support for radio systems and facility use.
Fire Chief Matt Peterson told commissioners the informal support the TV district has provided ‘‘has saved Chief Pitts and myself probably 40 to 80 hours in the last probably 3 months,’’ and said formalizing the relationship will put an annual operations plan in place so the agencies can share maintenance and facilities. Peterson and other speakers said the agreement could include access to NSHE fiber as a redundant route at no cost to the governmental entities, reducing a single point of failure for 911 dispatch and radio communications.
Commission discussion emphasized the cooperation'wide benefits and the low direct cost to each agency; commissioners approved the motion. Commissioner (speaker 4) made the motion to approve; Chief Peterson seconded and the board recorded the ayes and carried the motion. The chair opened the floor to public comment during the item and recorded none.
The agreement includes an attachment with facility standards and an annual operations plan that outlines how the county, TV district and fire district will coordinate maintenance, shared facilities and radio support. Officials said the arrangement is an exchange of services with each agency generally bearing its own costs.
