Jim Weatherly presented a department update on diversity, equity and inclusion for the Liquor and Cannabis Board, describing his background and how the agency's DEI work has evolved.
"I've now been in a formal DEI practitioner role for almost 5 years this fall," Jim said, framing the work with a gardening metaphor and noting the LCB's Impact team currently has about 18 members who represent divisions across the agency.
Jim said the agency has revised new-employee orientation to include DEI content, hosted DEIB panels, and launched a "word of the week" drawn from a statewide DEI glossary. He described an internal SharePoint site with resources for staff and cited collaborative cross-functional teams and new equity competencies coming from HR as part of ongoing learning.
Board members thanked Jim for the work; one board member who is also a Master Gardener noted appreciation for the gardening metaphor. Jim offered follow-up contact information and encouraged continued collaboration across divisions.
