LCB says website meets most WCAG requirements; training set for document authors

LCB communications reported recent website redesign work, fixes for coding issues found by audits, and plans for staff training so all newly posted documents meet WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility requirements ahead of DOJ changes effective April 24.
Sam, a communications consultant with LCB, told the executive management team the agency updated its website in 2024 and launched the new site in January 2025 after user research and usability testing with internal and external stakeholders.
"Our goal in designing was 2 clicks or less to get to the point that people needed to access those resources," Sam said, describing design priorities and mobile-first changes (about 50% of users access the site via mobile). Sam said a manual review of the top 200 pages narrowed the focus to roughly 100 high-traffic pages and that a mix of vendor and IT fixes resolved most coding issues found in audits.
Sam explained the Department of Justice/ADA changes effective April 24 require sites to meet WCAG 2.1 AA; LCB staff said a Department of Services for the Blind review flagged a few remaining items that the vendor and IT are correcting. Staff noted archived PDFs and attachments do not need retroactive remediation, but all new uploads must meet accessibility standards; LCB plans short trainings and intranet resources for document authors.
