Advisory committee recommends county host reception for Lily Vincennes historic marker in October

Kellen Macbeth asked the committee to recommend the county host an October reception to celebrate the Lily Vincennes historic marker on South Carlin Springs Road, noting it is the first LGBTQIA+ historic marker in the Commonwealth of Virginia and that Arlington had provided a co-sponsor role earlier. "Since this is the 1st LGBTQ plus historic marker in the Commonwealth Of Virginia... we think it's important to move forward with this event," Macbeth said.
Members agreed to recommend a county-hosted reception with advisory committee assistance. Cynthia, speaking from county staff, cautioned that the marker's location on a highway slope complicates in-place ceremonies and suggested hosting a nearby reception or seeking permission from a private lot directly adjacent to the marker for a small gathering and photo access. The committee moved and approved a recommendation that the county host a reception in October and that the advisory committee assist in planning; because quorum was reached only after a late rejoin, the chair will follow up by email to collect outstanding confirmations and formalize the request to the county manager.
