Board approves two contracts to fill special‑education staffing gaps

The board approved two personnel-service contracts to address special-education staffing shortages for the 2024–25 school year.
First, trustees authorized a contract with Pioneer Healthcare Services LLC to provide an occupational therapist at a total cost of $69,920. "This happens multiple times during the year — we have a need and we don't have someone to fill it," staff said in explanation of the procurement. The motion to approve the Pioneer Healthcare contract carried with five ayes.
Second, the board approved a contract with 3 Cords Incorporated and Therapy Travelers LLC to provide a virtual speech and language pathologist for $79,120. District staff said the virtual option was the fastest way to provide services while in-person staff shortages persist. Trustees discussed whether virtual services are a preferred model or a short-term solution and agreed the contracts address immediate IEP and service timelines.
Both contracts were approved on motions that carried with unanimous board support and will be used to meet students’ individualized education program requirements for the school year.
