Staff recommended and the board approved hiring a health teacher under a provisional internship permit. The board then approved a contract with Aqua Healthcare Services (listed in the agenda as the ASL provider) for American Sign Language interpretation for the 2024–25 school year at a total cost of $85,405. Trustee questions clarified that many of the expenditures relate to special education needs and are funded from the general fund, which the district must cover beyond state mandates.
The board also approved an updated contract with Summa Academy LLC for specialized academic instruction and related services for $87,803.50 for the 2024–25 year. Additional personnel items approved included updated certificated job descriptions (TK–8 classroom teacher) and a new lead school psychologist position description and salary (effective 11/01/2024). The board approved the 2024–25 Local Control Accountability Plan federal addendum as required.
All motions on these items passed unanimously (5–0). Trustees said the approvals are part of ongoing efforts to ensure services for students with disabilities and to modernize job descriptions to match current district needs.
