Residents urge board to press county for crossing guard and safety measures after child struck near Hanson Elementary

Two residents told the Lammersville Joint Unified School District board that a nearby intersection by Hanson Elementary is dangerous and urged immediate action from the board and county.
Pete Moyer said he witnessed a child struck near the intersection and has documented high vehicle volumes there, calling for a stop sign, crossing guard or flashing red light. "We need a stop sign, a crossing guard, a flashing red light," Moyer said, adding that he and neighbors have counted thousands of vehicle movements and want the board to contact county officials.
A neighbor who identified herself as Vannie said volunteers are willing to serve as crossing guards and asked the board to tell staff what waivers or steps are needed. The board confirmed it cannot act immediately on nonagendized items because of the Brown Act but said staff will follow up with the speakers to coordinate next steps and contact county officials.
The public-comment speakers asked trustees to keep pressure on county public-works staff and to consider temporary mitigation while longer-term engineering solutions are pursued.
