Commissioners advance 10-acre Vernon Township rezoning to first reading

County planning staff presented a rezoning request for about 10 acres in the 4000 block of 1200 E in Vernon Township, east of the interstate and roughly two miles south of Uniontown. Connor Barnett told the board that the Planning Commission recommended the rezone to general business by a 5–1 vote with three members absent and one person speaking in opposition. The rezoning will be an amendment to the county zoning map and requires two readings; commissioners moved the ordinance to first reading on Jan. 7, 2025.
Barnett also noted permitting activity for 2024, reporting total investment of approximately $30 million and 205 permits issued. The minutes record no public testimony in favor during the commissioners' action and note one person spoke in opposition during the Planning Commission hearing. The board did not take final action beyond first-reading approval; additional public notice and a second reading will be required before any change to zoning becomes effective.
