LCB staff say confidential bulletins will help link cross-jurisdiction cannabis thefts

The Enforcement and Education unit told the board it compiles investigative details into law-enforcement confidential bulletins to help detectives link cases across jurisdictions. Lieutenant Lou D'Amalo described an example where a traffic stop revealed hundreds of packaged cannabis items without traceability stickers, other drugs and weapons; investigators arrested a suspect and the LCB circulated a bulletin so other agencies could check for related thefts.
"This was a traffic stop... he alertly realized that the driver had boxes of packaged cannabis items, and none of them seem to have any traceability on them," D'Amalo said. The LCB said it distributes such bulletins to roughly 25 detectives and deputies now and will expand the mailing list as needed. The agency said linking cases helps law enforcement add additional charges and connect related crimes in multiple jurisdictions.
