The board held a public hearing on the Title VI Indian Education grant plan for 2025–26 and reviewed an estimated allocation of $4,000. Staff proposed to budget $1,000 for student supplies (beads, art supplies) and $3,000 for contracted Pomo cultural instruction, including arts/crafts, music, language, heritage studies and environmental conservation.
Staff said the Indian Parent Committee will review the plan further on April 23, 2025. The minutes list the proposed spending categories and the committee review date; no vote to finalize the plan was recorded at the April 9 meeting.
Separately, board members discussed the proposed 2025–26 academic calendar and asked for more time to decide whether to add Native American Day on Sept. 27, 2025. Board members noted that adding that holiday would require adding an instructional day elsewhere in the calendar. The calendar adoption was deferred to allow further consideration.
The public hearing provided the required forum for the Indian Education funding plan; staff and the Indian Parent Committee are expected to reconcile the plan before the board adopts a final budget or allocation.
