Ellis County Public Works sets 2026 summer schedule of four 10‑hour days

Public Works Director Brendan Mackay presented the department's 2026 summer hours plan, which runs April 6 through Oct. 30, 2026. The Road & Bridge and Noxious Weeds divisions will operate four 10‑hour days (7:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m.) Monday–Thursday. Holiday weeks (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) will use four 8‑hour days (7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.).
The change is intended to consolidate staffing into fewer days while maintaining weekly service coverage. Citizens with questions were directed to the Public Works Department at (785) 628‑9455.
