The Board of Clay County Commissioners approved immediate safety actions after a county bridge inspector raised concerns about a bridge located on Parallel Road between Meridian Road and Buffalo Road. Highway Administrator Bobby Shomper told the Board the inspector recommended the bridge be closed until repairs are made; Shomper said he would close the bridge effective immediately.
Separately, the Board approved hiring Cook, Flatt & Strobel to perform concrete testing at the bridge on Utah Road north of Green. Commissioner Carlson moved to hire the engineering firm for the testing; Commissioner Mayo seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Shomper also reported routine highway maintenance activities and said he would compile annual maintenance costs for a grant-associated asphalt project for Board review.
The Board did not provide a repair timetable at the meeting. The actions recorded in the minutes direct county highway staff to secure engineer testing and take immediate safety measures on the Parallel Road structure.
