During public comment on March 9, resident Mary Lo Presti described recurring problems with cleared accessible parking spots in the Wickford Municipal Lot and near town buildings.
"In spite of this issue being brought to the attention of the Town, the situation has yet to be remedied," Presti told the council, saying she had emailed Town Manager Ralph Mullis and councilors several times. She said town staff had informed her that some parking spots in the municipal lot are privately owned (she named Ocean State Job Lot, the Kayak Center, Dollar Tree and an individual, Randy Collins) and that Dollar Tree owned two accessible spaces that had not been kept clear.
Presti said the accessible spot in front of the senior center had been cleared according to ADA guidelines and argued that the town should ensure accessible access regardless of ownership. The manager's office had communicated to Presti about private ownership but Presti said the onus remains on the town to ensure accessibility for residents. The issue was recorded for follow-up but no immediate remedial action was recorded in the meeting.
