Fire leadership noted the department faces retention challenges and is using contractual protections (promotion and training covenants) to reduce turnover.
Councilors pressed both chiefs on overtime forecasting; the manager said he wants monthly monitoring between January and June 2027 and may consider interim spending freezes if projections stray. The council also discussed school resource officers and a proposal to seek state legislation or league support to secure state funding for additional SROs.
