Fire chief seeks up to $2.8 million in federal funding for public safety complex and EOC

Fire Chief John Lisonbee briefed the council on March 9 about efforts to reduce local cost exposure for the new public safety complex and an emergency operations center (EOC).
"This grant that we will be applying for is roughly $2,800,000," Lisonbee said, describing the planned congressional direct-spending request and noting the town can pursue multiple funding sources. He said the request aims to offset building costs related to the EOC and public-safety complex and that past cities and towns have received similar funding.
Councilors moved and approved a motion to authorize the applications and to send supporting letters to the congressional delegation. Lisonbee said staff will also pursue other federal options, including FEMA programs, acknowledging there is no guarantee of award and that award thresholds and federal budget decisions affect certainty.
