Commission clarifies it recommends rezoning; Rural Zoning Commission and county commissioners will hold public hearings

At the Feb. 4 meeting Commissioner Kerri Brammer asked why the Planning Commission sometimes holds public hearings and other times does not. Stephanie Dunlap of Clark County Community and Economic Development explained that the Planning Commission holds hearings only when it has final authority on subdivisions, but on rezoning items the commission issues recommendations; the Rural Zoning Commission and the Board of County Commissioners will hold the public hearings and give neighbors an opportunity to ask questions.
The clarification followed two linked rezoning recommendations and is important for neighbors seeking to comment: the Planning Commission record is advisory for rezoning and does not substitute for the subsequent hearings where the public can present testimony and questions.
