Wise County authorizes retiring investigator to purchase service firearm for $1 and formalizes practice

The Commissioners' Court authorized retiring investigator Jake Polhemus to purchase his service weapon, a Glock 17, for $1 and directed staff to treat that amount as the prevailing nominal fee for verified retiring officers going forward.
Judge J.D. Clark cited Texas Local Government Code Chapter 614.051 as the statutory framework allowing sale or transfer of a service firearm to an honorably retired peace officer. Treasurer Katherine Hudson confirmed Polhemus' retirement status through the Texas County and District Retirement System (TCDRS). Clark said the policy will simplify future orders while each request will continue to be discussed in Court. Asset Control Manager Diana Allen will coordinate with Court Attorney Thomas Aaberg to prepare the required documentation. The Court unanimously approved the sale.
