Commission reviews forest-management work: logging nearly complete, trails updates and seedling orders

Commission member Jim Bennett presented aerial drone photos showing new group clearings and landing sites and reported that logging work is complete on all but a few trees that will be hand-felled. The commission discussed trail impacts: Juniper Hill Trails are now open, Carriage Road Trails will remain closed until the landing is cleared, and a spring cleanup will be needed to remove branches and sticks.
Hannah Dallas, the county forester, told the commission she had brought in three school groups during the cutting — including two groups from Hartford Tech — and plans to place an order for white oak and serviceberry seedlings. Dallas said she will finish the invasives-species contract next month and put it out to bid in spring; Rebecca Haynes will request final log-slip tallies and sales information from Dallas.
