Bossier Parish committee moves two millage renewals toward Dec. 12, 2026 ballot

The Road/Subdivision Regulations Committee of the Bossier Parish Police Jury gave general consensus to place two ad valorem millage renewal propositions on the December 12, 2026 ballot.

Dr. Ken Ward, Parish Administrator, told the committee both millages expire in 2027 and described their current revenue. He read draft ballot language for the propositions, saying the Roads & Bridges millage is "one and ninety-five hundredths (1.95) mills" and is "an estimated $2,700,000 reasonably expected at this time to be collected" annually; the Health Units millage is "eighty-one hundredths (.81) mills" estimated to generate about $1,100,000 annually. Placing the renewal on a 2026 ballot, he said, "allows sufficient time to bring it back before voters on a future ballot if unsuccessful."

The committee considered timing for the election date and Mr. Philip Rodgers suggested the December 12, 2026 ballot; there was general consensus to move forward with both propositions on that date. Dr. Ward said staff will proceed with placing the items on the ballot and will return necessary resolutions and adoption items to a future Regular Meeting for formal approval.
