Major Jeff Duran presented the proposed change to the county’s inmate food contract at the Sept. 16 work session, saying the vendor plans to implement a price increase in November. He said the per‑tray cost would rise to about $1.43 and that future automatic increases in the contract would be tied to both a food‑price index (CPI) and a labor index (ECI).
"Dollar 43, basically, per per inmate," Major Jeff Duran said when asked about the November price. He told commissioners the vendor had not raised prices in two years, that special‑diet and religious meals are rare and would not materially change costs, and that staff negotiated a 60‑day termination notice so either party could end the agreement if necessary. Staff recommended conditional approval pending final review of contract language.
